Description of Xavan® weed control fabric

Xavan® is a four-layer span-bond nonwoven polypropylene fabric originally developed by DuPont™ in the United States. The durability is enough with the use of thick fiber.
With excellent water permeability and weather resistance, this weed control fabric smoothly lets rain (water) and liquid fertilizers through and thus can be used for various applications.

Features

High weed control effect

Since thick fibers are fused together, the durability and dimensional stability are extremely high. This fabric controls the growth of Poaceae plants, such as plants with strong penetration force, such as the field horsetail, Congo grass, and reeds.

240 Green: While the weed beneath the fabric has withered, the soil is in good condition.
240 Green: The sasa plant has not penetrated through the fabric. The sasa plant underneath the fabric is withered and under control.
240 Green: The field horsetail has not penetrated the fabric.

Water draining effect

The thin structure reduces clogging and effectively lets water permeate through the fabric. The fabric does not affect the soil condition as it provides good water draining effect and air permeability. This fabric also functions as a filter for underdrains in areas with poor water drainage.

Gravel dries quickly with the excellent water permeability.
Poor water drainage due to low water permeability
Outstanding water permeability
Poor water drainage due to the availability of the clay layer

Effect of preventing the subsidence of gravel

Gravel gradually subsides through snow accumulation, snowmelt, needle ice, and being walked on. The installation of this fabric prevents such subsidence and eliminates the need to refill the gravel. Since Xavan® weed control fabric has high durability and elasticity, this fabric prevents the subsidence of gravel, deformation of the base ground, and ruts that usually occur over a long period.

The high elasticity receives the weight as a surface and distributes the load.

High durability

With the special production method of DuPont, Xavan® can remain in good condition for a long period even when it is constantly exposed to UV rays, and its effects are semi-permanent if it is installed in the shade without exposure to UV rays, such as underneath gravel. In addition, hydrolysis would not occur because Xavan® is entirely made of polypropylene.

Ten years with exposure to UV rays since installation
Effects are semi-permanent if installed underneath gravel.

Easy installation

Lightweight: 240 G 1 m × 30 m weighs about 7.2 kg.
Easy to cut
Pinholes remain intact.
Damage resistant

Environmentally friendly material

Xavan® is not made of chemicals that can affect the environment, such as ones that cause soil contamination.

Xavan® has been employed for many applications, including uses by the government sector.

Permeability lasts! Permeability lowers.
Also, moss and weeds grow on accumulated soil.

The difference is obvious when compared to the low basis weight.

  • *The standard type is suitable for controlling relatively short weeds, such as rosette-type psyllium, dandelions, and shepherd's purse.
  • *The strong type can control stronger weeds, such as the field horsetails, Congo grass, reeds, sasa, and Canada goldenrod. It can also be used in parking lots by laying gravel over the fabric. Vehicles can of course drive over the fabric.
  • *Directly driving over the weed control fabric by vehicles is not recommended for any of the products. When vehicles drive over the fabric, please create a gravel layer of about 10 cm over the fabric.
